Short Story: John Steinback

John Steinback says that to write a good short story.  He is saying that it just comes to you.  He has 1 simple rule for us and that was for the story to be effe3ctive and to cvonvey something from the writer to reader.  After that 1 rule there were no other rules.  The story could be whatever as long as it got to the point.  I written short stories before just I have not remembered them.

The Box

The box has a shape of a rectangle.  Mr. Mayo says that it was passed down from his family for generations, I don’t believe this.  I have a few theories about it.  My first one is that he had it sitting in is attic since the 70s.  It was probaly up there and he just found it and decided to bring it in to school because he had nothing better to do.  There is definitly not any thing valuable or he wouldn’t have shaken it up.  He also could have bought it at some yard sale 2 weeks ago just for fun so he could make some crazy stories about it.  It couldn’t have been passed down for so long because it wouldn’t be in such good shape and wouldn’t have stickers of new things.  This box is different wether it’s from the 70s with a disco ball and afro in it, or passed down from generations or even from 2 weeks ago I am not very interested in it and it will never be open.

The book is about a kid named Hal Stevens.  His dad is the famous baseball player Ralph Stevens who divorced from his mom about 3 years ago.  He just moved from Oklahoma City to Cannon City because his mom got a better job.  He is at his new school and he doesn’t Know anybody.  Right know he is giving us background and telling us that he is looking forward to the baseball season because then he will have friends his teammates.  He also found out who is coach will be Don Mavis who is also a retired pro.

Baseball

Baseball is my favorite sport

When I touch the diamond I feel alive

Hearing the sound of the glove popping, the bat cracking

The croud screaming, my team cheering

We had just won the game

The other team in tears

We go home winners they go home losers

Until tommorow when it happens all over again

I like to read sports books, comedys, and scaary books.  My favorite book of all time is Heat.  It’s my favorite because it is about my favorite thing to do which is baseball.  It is a sports drama about baseball, the Little League World Series.  That is my favorite book and why I like it.
